MapSongs is a free web app for memorizing the chord structure and lyrics of songs. It is run by one person as a personal project. Using it means accepting what follows.
Your account
You need an email address to sign in. Keep your access to that inbox secure, since anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You may delete your account at any time — see the privacy policy.
Your songs are yours
The chord charts and lyrics you enter belong to you, are private to your account, and are not published anywhere by MapSongs. No ownership of them is claimed. They are also your responsibility: only enter material you have the right to keep a personal copy of. Lyrics and chord arrangements are usually somebody's copyright, and typing one into a private practice tool is a different act from publishing it. MapSongs gives you no way to do the second thing, deliberately: there is no public page for a song, no directory, and no way for one account to see another's library.
Handing a copy to someone
You can take a song out of MapSongs and give it to a particular person — as a downloaded .cho file, or as a link that carries the song inside it. Either way it is a copy leaving your library because you asked for it, in the same sense that emailing a document is.
MapSongs is not the one carrying it. A share link keeps the song after the #, the part of a web address a browser never sends to a server, so the app does not receive, store or forward what you sent, and holds no record that you sent it. It travels through whatever you sent it in — a message, an email, a photograph of a QR code — and that is between you and the person you sent it to.
A copy going to someone else leaves the lyrics out by default — it carries the chord structure, the arrangement and any recording sync, and the words are left for the recipient to add from their own copy. You can include them, and that is a choice you make deliberately for a chart you have the right to copy. Your own backup, under Export, is always the complete song.
So what you send, and who you send it to, is your decision and your responsibility. Sending someone a copy of material you have no right to copy is not something this app can judge for you, and it is a breach of these terms.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something stored here infringes your rights, email privacy@mapsongs.com, which is the designated agent for copyright notices. Say what the work is, what material you want removed and where it is, and how to reach you. Valid notices are acted on promptly.
Accounts that repeatedly store infringing material are terminated.
Reasonable use
Do not attempt to reach other users' data, break the service for anyone else, or use it to redistribute copyrighted material. Automated bulk use is not what the app is for, and accounts doing it may be suspended.
Third-party services
MapSongs can play a recording alongside your chart, through YouTube. That is their service, not this one.
By using the YouTube feature you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service, and the embedded player's data collection is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
No promises about availability
MapSongs is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, may lose data, and may change or stop entirely. Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose — every song downloads as a ChordPro file, and your library downloads as one backup file. To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from use of the app.
Changes
These terms may change. If they change in substance, the date at the top changes with them, and continuing to use the app means accepting the new version.
